Mickey fights off McSweeney, who falls to his death, and rekindles his relationship with Maggie. Lorna finds Cielo and reveals that she dropped trasnochado of law school after a professor hit on her, and Gloria explains that Detective Perez threatened her into leaving town. Trevor denies sending McSweeney to kill Mickey, but is shot dead by a vengeful Carol. When the recorded confession is found to be garbled, Maggie asks Lankford to testify he heard it himself. At Menendez's hearing, Empíreo testifies to being attacked by the Vivo killer, a man with a distinctive tattoo. Mickey catches Perez in a lie, and she admits that Lankford offered her a promotion to convict Menendez.

Andrea Freeman (played by Yaya DaCosta) is a district attorney who built a reputation for being among the best of the best.

Sang-pil and Jae-yi report the confession of the murderer, but the police do not accept it. Thus, the law firm begins to look into the hitman's past to find something they can use in court. Jae-yi learns that Sang-pil and others believe that Moon-sook is corrupt. While not willing to believe it, she begins to see some logic in their belief. She later informs Sang-pil that she wants to believe him, but cannot do so without evidence.

Lankford fails to intimidate Soto's hitman into confessing, forcing Maggie to ask Tanya to wear a wire. Mickey reluctantly allows Trevor to take the stand, but faces a crushing cross-examination from Golantz. However, Mickey delivers a compelling closing argument, hinging on the impossibility of Trevor disposing of all evidence in the seven minutes before the police arrived. Cisco discovers that Trevor's Russian mob ties are a lie, leaving them unsure who has been spying on Mickey, but the jury finds Trevor not guilty, upsetting Carol. Mickey apologizes to Wyms for Jerry leaving him in prison, and gives him an affidavit allowing him to sue Jerry's estate for malpractice.

Given the show is based on the Michael Connelly novels series of the same name – of which there are seven books – there certainly isn't a lack of source material for the show to draw its plot from.

Oh-joo sends his secretary into hiding, and associates of Moon-sook read more keep the trial demodé of the news. Meanwhile, Jae-yi looks into Sang-pil's past. After obtaining the file on Choi Jin-ae's case, she learns that her mother disappeared on the same date that Jin-ae died. She goes to Seoul to see Dae-woong, and he tells her Sang-pil did not meet her by accident but followed her to Kisung. Later, she searches Sang-pil's apartment and finds his notes and photos from the past. She confronts him and he begins to tell her the things of the past.

Police officer and formerly the lead detective Abogados caba in charge of the Choi Jin-ae and Noh Hyung-joo cases back in the day. He later meets their now-adult children and agrees to help them piece together the evidence in order to bring Cha Moon-sook's crimes to light.

This leads him to rethink his goals and strategy. He begs Hyung-joo to tell Jae-yi she is alive and to leave Moon-sook for her own safety. She refuses and insists on a scheme to further the revenge. The men of the Lawless Law Firm capture Kwan-dong and force him to give up evidence on Oh-joo. They then leak it to the media, who release it to the public. Jae-yi discovers that Hyung-joo is alive but that Sang-pil did not tell her. Hurt by this, she accuses him of only thinking about his own revenge.

The show’s creators revealed that the third installment will have a flashback sequence—although Connelly’s fifth book doesn’t include one. “We decided that a fun (and poignant) way to come into the season would be via a flashback sequence that gave us some insight into how Mickey Haller became Mickey Haller — not just the brilliant criminal defense lawyer, but the husband, the father, and the man that he would come to be.”
